CSOP- Harmful Algae in the Strait of Georgia

Dataset on marine microalgae (20-200 µm) that are known or suspected to have a negative effect on aquaculture (finfish, shellfish) based on ~bi-monthly sampling (up to 20 times a year) from more than 100 sampling sites in the Strait of Georgia, Canada. Samples were analyzed on a Sedgewick-Rafter slide; the identification of specimens was done to the lowest taxonomic level possible and the enumeration (as cells mL-1) by a taxonomist certified by Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) in Proficiency in Identification of Harmful Algae.

Purpose

To determine the organism counts and biomass of phytoplankton throughout the Strait of Georgia. This is part of the Pacific Salmon Foundation Citizen Science Program.
